The incident occurred along a busy route in the state, where the tanker, loaded with liquefied gas, reportedly veered off course before bursting into flames. Thick plumes of smoke billowed into the sky as the fire rapidly engulfed the vehicle, forcing motorists and nearby residents to flee for safety.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other security agencies, were swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings and vehicles.
Authorities cordoned off the affected section of the road while firefighters battled the blaze. The operation caused significant traffic delays as motorists were diverted to alternative routes.
Although the cause of the crash is still under investigation, preliminary reports indicate that the driver may have lost control of the tanker before it overturned and ignited. Officials are yet to confirm whether there were casualties or injuries resulting from the incident.
Residents praised the prompt response of emergency personnel, noting that their swift intervention helped prevent what could have been a far more devastating disaster.
The Lagos State Government has urged motorists to exercise caution around articulated vehicles and comply with traffic regulations, while tanker operators have been reminded to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained and driven by qualified personnel.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
