Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyers Threaten Legal Action Over ‘Kill Kanu’ Comment on Live TV

The legal team representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has threatened to institute legal proceedings over remarks made by a guest during a live television programme, allegedly calling for Kanu to be killed.

In a statement issued on behalf of the legal team, the lawyers described the comment as reckless, inflammatory, and unacceptable, arguing that it amounted to incitement and posed a threat to their client's constitutional rights and personal safety.

They urged the television station to review the circumstances surrounding the broadcast and take appropriate action, including distancing itself from the statement and ensuring similar comments are not aired in the future.

The lawyers maintained that every Nigerian, regardless of the allegations or charges against them, is entitled to due process and the protection of the law. They stressed that public calls for violence have no place in a democratic society.

They further warned that unless appropriate steps are taken to address the matter, they would pursue all available legal remedies against those responsible for the alleged remarks.

The development has sparked debate on social media, with many calling for greater responsibility in public discourse and stricter moderation of statements capable of inciting violence during live broadcasts.
