Bandits Overrun 10 Zamfara Communities, More Than 40 Residents Feared Kidnapped

 

GUSAU, Nigeria – Armed bandits have reportedly launched coordinated attacks on at least 10 communities in Zamfara State, forcing hundreds of residents to flee their homes while more than 40 people are feared to have been abducted.

According to local sources, the attackers stormed the affected communities in large numbers, firing indiscriminately and creating panic among residents. The assaults disrupted normal activities as many villagers abandoned their homes in search of safety.

Witnesses said several houses and properties were damaged during the attacks, while dozens of residents, including women and children, were allegedly taken away by the gunmen to unknown destinations.

Community leaders described the attacks as devastating, noting that many families have been displaced and are now taking refuge in neighbouring communities or temporary shelters. They appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue those abducted and restore peace to the affected areas.

Security operatives have reportedly been deployed to the affected communities to pursue the attackers and strengthen security across the region. Authorities are also working to verify the exact number of those abducted and assess the extent of the destruction caused by the attacks.

The latest incident highlights the persistent security challenges facing parts of northwestern Nigeria, where banditry, kidnapping, and attacks on rural communities have continued despite ongoing military operations.

Residents have urged the government to enhance security presence in vulnerable communities and adopt more proactive measures to protect lives and property.
