Olubadan Warns Residents Against Photographing or Filming Oloolu Masquerade

The Olubadan of Ibadanland has cautioned residents and visitors against taking photographs or recording videos of the revered Oloolu masquerade during its traditional outing.

In a statement issued ahead of the cultural event, the monarch urged members of the public to respect the customs and sacred traditions associated with the Oloolu festival, emphasizing that the masquerade holds deep spiritual and cultural significance in Ibadanland.

The warning stressed that anyone attending the event must refrain from using cameras, mobile phones, or other recording devices to capture images or videos of the masquerade, in line with long-standing traditional practices.

The Olubadan also called on residents to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the festival and cooperate with traditional authorities and security personnel to ensure a safe and orderly celebration.

The annual Oloolu festival remains one of Ibadan’s most important cultural events, attracting indigenes, visitors, and cultural enthusiasts while preserving the rich heritage and traditions of the ancient city.
