Funke Akindele Urges Nigerian Youth to Reject 'Get-Rich-Quick' Mentality

Popular Nollywood producer and actress, Funke Akindele, has issued a powerful call to action for Nigerian youths, encouraging them to abandon the pursuit of "get-rich-quick" schemes in favor of disciplined hard work and the acquisition of practical skills.

In a recent interview with Bella Naija, Akindele used her own life journey as a blueprint for success, highlighting that she consciously chose the path of integrity and capacity-building over easier, "wayward" alternatives.

A Foundation Built on Hustle

Reflecting on her formative years at the University of Lagos, Akindele shared a candid look at her struggles, noting that she worked hard to survive and secure her future.

  • She recalled selling bed spaces at the university to earn a living.

  • The actress emphasized that she was willing to sacrifice her comfort to ensure she was earning legitimately.

  • She described herself as a "hustler," attributing her firm and disciplined nature to the life lessons she learned during those challenging times.

The Importance of Skills Over Certificates

Akindele’s message focused heavily on the necessity of self-reliance in a competitive job market. She advised young Nigerians not to rely solely on their academic qualifications, but to augment them with tangible skills.

“Skills acquisition is very important. As a young woman or man, you have to acquire skills so that when there is no job, you can use your skill to make money for yourself,” she expressed.

By prioritizing long-term growth and character, Akindele continues to position herself as a mentor for the younger generation, demonstrating that sustainable success is born from dedication rather than shortcuts.
