Bago Urges Fulani Community to Help End Killings, Kidnappings

 

MINNA, Nigeria – Niger State Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago has called on members of the Fulani community to take a proactive role in ending the wave of killings, kidnappings, and other criminal activities allegedly carried out by some individuals within their ethnic group.

Speaking during a meeting with Fulani leaders and stakeholders, the governor stressed that communities must not remain silent while criminal elements operate in their midst. He warned that failure to expose and discourage those responsible for violent crimes could lead to the entire community being unfairly associated with the actions of a few.

Bago urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth groups to cooperate closely with security agencies by providing credible intelligence that would help identify and apprehend those involved in criminal activities.

According to the governor, insecurity remains one of the greatest threats to the state's development, and lasting peace can only be achieved through collective responsibility and collaboration between government, security agencies, and local communities.

He emphasized that law-abiding Fulani residents should not allow criminals to tarnish the reputation of their community, noting that the vast majority of Fulani people are peaceful citizens who contribute positively to society.

The governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that the government would continue to strengthen security operations and support efforts aimed at restoring peace across the state.

Bago also appealed to all residents, regardless of ethnic or religious background, to embrace peaceful coexistence and remain vigilant by reporting suspicious movements and activities to the appropriate authorities.

The governor expressed confidence that stronger cooperation between communities and security agencies would significantly improve efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime in Niger State.
